Your Sister,defined

I wrote this poem about myself for my brother, Jeff.

Your Sister, Defined

If I were a crayon, I'd be bright blue
If I were a song, I'd be a groovin' jazz tune
If I were a car, I'd be a VW Bug
If I were a guy, my name would be Doug
If I were an element, I would be water
If I had a choice, I would be taller
If I were a wine, I would be red
If I stopped having birthdays, I would be dead.

Who I am

Elizabeth Elliot once said, “The preoccupations of young women – their looks, their clothes, their social life – don’t seem to change much from generation to generation. But in every generation there are a few who make other choices.”

I am a woman in radical abandonment to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I believe that the Bible is true--every word of it. And I won't compromise on that or back down on that. It is the Truth. Jesus is the Only Way.

Can I just say something...

This is a post for anyone who plans to do anything in their life.

Today I had the unfortunate opportunity to see yet another headline about yet another star or so called star embarrassed, shocked and dismayed that their personal naked pictures of themselves were leaked out to the media.
Did anyone fail to see that one word: personal.
Their personal naked pictures.
Here's a tip from me to you.
Don't take naked pictures of yourself.

And then I speak to soon...

And I woke up this morning to 3 inches of snow!

Spring! Spring! Spring!

Today was complete and total bliss.
The sun was shining, the wind was warm and the the ladybugs were out in full force.
You couldn't wipe the grin off my face.
We made mud pies, and brick and wood sculptures, I piled wood, I did some brushing (that's hedging trees for all you city girls), I power raked the back yard and then I weeded 1/3 of my garden in preparation for planting.
Later, we took a walk to the library and my whole town was outside. Well, almost the whole town.
Every storefront keeper was sweeping the walks, people were sitting in the benches and having happy conversations.
It's seemed as though all the world was singing our song, "It's spring! It's spring! It's spring!"

I'm a grandmother!

My daughter announced she was pregnant today...with the air pocket packing that comes in the box with books from Amazon.ca.
Anyway, she first had 6 kids, and then 5 more. Thank goodness she is not an "octo-mom", I don't think we could handle the barrage of media or the number of family members who would come out of the woodwork announcing that "that Grandmother is not stable."
So, I am a grandmother to two fuzzy ducks, a baby tiger, three teddy bears, an elephant, a multi-coloured horse, a Pooh bear, a lady bug and a Lego.
I'm going shopping for them...not matter how unstable it makes me look.

A note to my older self

Doesn't that sound like a great book title?
I think I will start a new feature on my blog--Notes to My Older Self.
It will consist of little observations of things, other people and ideas that I don't want to forget when I become older.

This is one I must write down. I want to tuck it away and pull it out when I have grown children...who are married and are very capable of making their own decisions. This gem comes via a great friend. They said, " I believe I would have a much better relationship with my Mom if--instead of telling me what I should do--she said, 'Well, I don't agree with that, but I respect your decision and as I give this to God, I know that I can support you.' If she had that approach, I'd be much more likely to ask for her opinion or advice."
Wow. A heavy thought. This friend wanted so much to have a better relationship with her Mom but her Mom doesn't have ears to hear this statement.
I want to be a Mother who has a great relationship with my kids as they mature into adults and make decisions.
So--for my blog readers, especially those who have kids who are 18 plus...please drop in some advice, or share a regret or a time that you and your kids/mom had a breakthrough.
I want to learn.
Teach me.
